# Manual Update

Sometimes, your browser doesn't automatically update the Yoyo extension version to the newest one&#x20;

* **OR** the browser needs time to detect the new Yoyo version, but you want to update it right away

From version **0.1.5**, the Yoyo extension can detect if it's outdated. If you see the banner on our website telling you to do a manual update, please follow the steps below.

The process should be seamless.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Quick Note:** \
You might see the prompt to update on the Yoyo extension but do not see the new version on the Chrome webstore. This is because Chrome needs some time to verify the production extension before publication.
{% endhint %}

## Chromium Browsers

* Type in your address bar: <mark style="color:red;">**\<browser>://extensions**</mark>
  * Replace <mark style="color:red;">**\<browser>**</mark> with chrome, edge, arc, ...
* Turn on <mark style="color:red;">**Developer Mode**</mark>&#x20;
* You should see some options on the top left. Click on <mark style="color:red;">**Update**</mark> to make Chrome update all your extensions to the newest versions.

# Troubleshooting

## Shortcuts Unresponsive

1. Occasionally, the browser may display improperly configured shortcuts. To reset the shortcuts, click the pen icon and re-enter the shortcut you want

This happens regularly with Arc whenever you close and re-open the browser, so you need to repeat this step to reset your shortcuts every time. There's no workaround for now

***

2. For some browsers, a few combos might not work. For example, in the browser Arc, we observed that <mark style="color:red;">**Alt + Shift + Period**</mark> and <mark style="color:red;">**Alt + Shift + Comma**</mark> don't work as expected. So, we recommend:
   1. Set to either <mark style="color:red;">**Alt + Shift + K**</mark> or <mark style="color:red;">**Alt + Shift + N**</mark> for "Go to next tab"
   2. Set to either <mark style="color:red;">**Alt + Shift + J**</mark> or <mark style="color:red;">**Alt + Shift + P**</mark> for "Go to previous tab"

## Yoyo Extension Stuck

I. If you see your extension stuck after the browser is inactive for a while, you can reset it by turning the extension off and back on

***

II. Chromium browser extensions often come with a service worker, which acts as a mini-server. This server will be automatically deactivated by the browser after approximately 30 idle seconds

You can check and force it back to the active state by:

1. Type in your address bar: <mark style="color:red;">**\<browser>://extensions**</mark>
   * Replace <mark style="color:red;">**\<browser>**</mark> with chrome, edge, arc, ...
2. Turn on <mark style="color:red;">**Developer Mode**</mark>
3. Click on **Inspect views&#x20;**<mark style="color:red;">**service worker**</mark>

***

III. In the worst-case scenario, the browser data is corrupted, and you must close and reopen all windows for the extension to work smoothly again.

## Tabs Related Features Unresponsive

If a tab is stuck in the loading state, it could potentially block Yoyo from updating internal states

* Try refreshing the tab and waiting for it to stop loading
* See if the tab is now tracked in the window history

# Recommended Usage

While Yoyo offers multiple ways to use its features, we recommend a specific setup to ensure you get the smoothest experience and avoid any browser-related quirks

1\. Pin the Yoyo search tab and the `<browser>://extensions` page at the top of your browser window

* This makes it easier to quickly access the Yoyo search interface and manage the extension in case it gets stuck or experiences lag

2\. Use "Window History" mode to visualize your current working set of tabs

* This mode helps you see all your open tabs in a single view, making it easy to jump back to previously visited tabs without losing context

3\. Switch to "Tabs" mode if you're looking for a specific tab

* "Tabs" mode provides a straightforward way to search for and navigate directly to a particular tab, helping you stay focused and efficient

# Cool Tips for Productivity

Here, we want to share some cool shortcuts that exist in your browsers already, and you might not know of them yet!

## Address Bar

You can access the search bar quickly by <mark style="color:red;">**⌘ + L**</mark> (Mac) or <mark style="color:red;">**Ctrl + L**</mark> (Windows)

## Tabs

On Mac:

* You can quickly navigate between your tabs with <mark style="color:red;">**⌘ + Shift + \[**</mark> and <mark style="color:red;">**⌘ + Shift + ]**</mark>
* Inside your tab, use <mark style="color:red;">**⌘ + \[**</mark> or <mark style="color:red;">**⌘ + ]**</mark> to move back or forward in that tab's history

On Windows:

* <mark style="color:red;">**Ctrl + Tab**</mark> to move to the next tab (right)
* <mark style="color:red;">**Ctrl + Shift + Tab**</mark> to move to the previous tab (left)
* <mark style="color:red;">**Alt + Left Arrow**</mark> to go back in the tab's history (previous page)
* <mark style="color:red;">**Alt + Right Arrow**</mark> to go forward in the tab's history (next page)

# Board

What is a Board?

## Concept

A board is an entity that statically stores your links.

You can think of boards as folders of links.

Boards can be nested within one another, providing an easy way to organize your links to your taste.

# Shortcuts

What are shortcuts/keywords?

## Concept

Shortcuts/Keywords are words that you can attach to either a board or a link.

With Yoyo Shortcut, you can use shortcuts to enhance the uniqueness of your links and boards.

Then, you can search and jump to them quickly with Yoyo navigation features.

## Usage

Honestly, there is no right way to use shortcuts. You can use them however you want! But we recommend keeping shortcuts as unique as possible since that will help a lot with searching later on.

# Sections + Drag and Drop

## Sections

A section is a visual group of boards and links. You can name a section to easily categorize your boards and links.

**NOTE:** Sections are 1-level only, meaning that they cannot contain other nested sections inside. We design it this way to keep UI interactions as minimal as possible.

## Drag and Drop

Currently, Yoyo Shortcut supports simple drag and drop for sections, boards, and links.

Drag and drop can be used for:

* Re-ordering entities
* Moving entities to a new location:&#x20;
  * Move a section/board/link to a new parent board
  * Move a board/link to a new parent section

{% hint style="info" %}
When new sections/boards/links are created, they will be put at the top of the ordering by default.
{% endhint %}

# Yoyo Search Page

Yoyo search page is the central search webpage that integrates tightly with the Yoyo Shortcut extension to offer you multiple commands:

* **Go to tabs and windows mode:** Focus on managing and searching tabs and windows&#x20;
* **Go to bookmarks mode:** Focus on searching Yoyo bookmarks
* **Go to history mode:** Focus on searching the current window's tab-browsing history
* **Reload extension:** Reload the Yoyo extension and the current Yoyo search page
* **Go to sessions mode:** Focus on managing and searching all window sessions

## Tabs and Windows

This is the same as the native browser searching tabs feature, but it's built into Yoyo Shortcut with extra features:

* Save a tab into Yoyo bookmarks
* Rename a tab for the current browsing session only \*
* Search tabs across multiple windows
* Switch focus to other windows

## Bookmarks & Folders

You can search for any bookmarks and folders saved in Yoyo Shortcut with this search mode.&#x20;

Bookmark shortcuts will help enhance your search experience here. If the shortcut path matches exactly with the search query, the bookmark will be placed on top of the search result.&#x20;

## Window History

This keeps a list of visited tabs ordered by the most recent active time. Thanks to this, going to previous or next tabs is now possible.

## Window Session

This shows all window sessions that are stored in Yoyo.

Each window session, if not active for 7 days, will be automatically removed from the Yoyo extension storage to make space for other sessions.

To be counted as active in a window, you can visit/create/move tabs.

# Window Session Restoration

Experimental feature to manage window sessions

Yoyo currently tracks two key pieces of information for each browser window:

* The window's name
* The tab browsing history within that window

Since browsers either don't support these features or don't expose them through extension APIs, Yoyo handles this tracking manually.

This setup works well during an active session. However, once the browser is closed and reopened, restoring this metadata becomes difficult, as native browser support for such recovery is lacking.

Yoyo is actively developing an algorithm to restore as much of this data as possible after a restart. Still, you may occasionally encounter issues, such as a changed window name or missing tab history, if the recovery process encounters unexpected changes. We're committed to refining the algorithm until it becomes rock-solid - or until browsers offer native support.

## **Restoration Options**

While we improve recovery, Yoyo offers three ways to restore metadata manually:

1. **Automatic restoration** when a new window is detected
2. **Manual attach** – the user links a current window to a previous session
3. **Manual launch** – the user starts a previous session in a brand new window

> **NOTE:**
>
> All restoration options are experimental since they are not supported natively by browser extension technologies.
>
> Thus, these operations can become buggy and slow.

### **Manual Attach (Advanced)**

For this method, the current window must match the old session in the number of tabs.&#x20;

Yoyo then maps each tab one-to-one, restoring details like the window name and tab-browsing history.

Finally, Yoyo deletes the old session data, since the current window now inherits its data.

> **NOTE:**
>
> If you want to attach another session into the current window, but it doesn't have the same number of tabs due to data corruption or other reasons, you should consider launching the old session and manually drag tabs from current window to old session.

### **Manual Launch (Recommended)**

This method is simpler and more reliable. You launch the previous session in a new window, minimizing the chance of anything going wrong.

Currently, browser extensions can't optimize performance when opening a new window with multiple links. As a result, you may notice some lag during the launch. It also requires waiting for all tabs to finish loading before interacting with the new window.

## Recommendation

Given these limitations, we recommend using your browser's built-in session management if supported.

Browsers like Edge, Vivaldi, and Arc offer robust workspace features that are more reliable, as they have deeper access to system resources.

Yoyo is designed to sit on top of your browser, providing enhanced organization and navigation, so we are limited to the technologies of browser extensions.

# Set Route Fallback

## Concept

When Yoyo cannot find a suitable link for the input shortcuts string, it automatically falls back to the **Route** **Fallback** **URL**.

The default setting for this URL is Google search: <https://www.google.com/search?q=%s>.

* Wildcard **%s** is the standard placeholder of search engines for input strings.
* This wildcard, in practice, will be replaced with the input string that cannot be found in the shortcut list.

## Where to Set?

You can set a new route fallback at <https://www.yoyoshortcut.com/account>

### **What is Yoyo's Failed Payment Policy?**

{% hint style="info" %}
If you have a failed payment while you have an active subscription, Yoyo will make a few attempts to get your payment. The schedule of attempts goes as follows:

* First initial attempt
* Second attempt: 1 day after the last attempt
* Third attempt: 1 day after the previous attempt
* Fourth attempt: 3 days after the last attempt

If Yoyo cannot get a successful payment after the fourth attempt, your subscription is canceled.
